The Gr 7's Valentines' Social

A NIGHT IN PARIS

The Eiffel Tower, lights, romance, and of course - berets!

These are just a few aspects of Paris that the grade 7’s of 2016 brought in to the Valentines social.  The night started off at 6 o’clock with a line of grade 5’s and 6’s waiting to get in, but before all this could happen - the grade 7’s were working tirelessly on getting the hall looking like Valentine ’s Day in Paris - getting the food ready and making sure the speakers for the music worked. It was a lot of work and effort but somehow the grade 7’s managed to get everything done.

Thomas Jefferson once said “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have” which is exactly what happened - hard work really does pay off! Later that night we had a few competitions such as the best dress, but I would first like to point out that everyone at the dance looked stunning! We had winners in every grade and each winner got a little sweet and a round of applause on stage. We also had a best dancer competition to the song ‘Hit the Quan’ by iLoveMemphis. Again the same principles apply - we had winners from every grade and each person got a sweet and a round of applause on stage. Then at exactly 8 o’clock we drew the raffle numbers for the two valentines baskets made by Moira Dahlan, and the winners were… Jordan Pullon in grade 7 and our History and LO teacher Ms Paulo! We ended the night with everyone (even some teachers) dancing to the chicken dance. We rapped it up at 9 o’clock and the grade 7’s left at about 9:15 after cleaning it all up.

On behave of all the grade 7’s I would like to thank everyone who came to support the grade 7’s by coming to the social. Without the support of the senior prep and its teachers we wouldn’t have been able to raise about R6500 so once again, Thank you!

Goodbye Ms Louw - Editor in Chief is moving to Dubai and sadly leaving PCS...

Goodbye Ms Louw

I will say on behalf of everyone in the senior prep newspaper club that we are very sad to say goodbye. The newspaper club is like a family and now it’s like we are losing our mom. Ms Louw is always there to lend a hand, hear what you have to say and comfort you when you feel blue. Ms Louw was the ‘adult friend’ you could talk to about anything and everything. You were understanding, kind and supportive. You are leaving us but you won’t leave our hearts, for what you did impacted all our lives in a good way. How lucky are we to have someone so special that makes saying goodbye so difficult? So instead of saying goodbye, we should say see you again to remind ourselves that a day shall come where we will meet each other once more. As Peter Pan said “never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting” but we will never forget you. We wish you all the best Ms ‘Emirates’. We hope every flight you go on will be safe and we will most definitely, positively miss you. Thank You for everything you have done for us and PLEASE don’t forget about us!

General Knowledge Quiz by Sinenjabulo Masango

On the 3rd of March 2016 we had 16 members who went to Christian Brothers College for a General Knowledge Quiz. The event was attended by more than 40 teams. There were three rounds and sixty questions, the questions were shown on a projector and we were given an answer sheet that we had to fill in. Our schools had 4 teams and our best finishing team had 54/60 (which is 90%) and finished fifth place after Southdowns College, St Mary’s DSG and Cornwall Hill College. The quiz night was very entertaining and was nice to participate in.

African Mask Zentangle Project

As Grade 7s we were given the activity of making a zentangle on a silhouette of a side view of a person. We used card paper, to design and draw the patterns of the zentangles, and coloured paper to stick them onto. The patterns were very different and unique. The activity was very fun and showed our creative side.

INTERVIEWS - morning swimming by Calum Grindlay and Alexia Argyrou

RED by Lindokuhle Nkoane

RED
RED…what is red?
RED could mean danger
You can spot red danger in everybody
Through their eyes and facial features
Red could mean wild at heart
Born to party, forced to work

Red could mean love
When a boy you like, likes another person
Your heart just crumbles and you feel rage

A monkey without a tail- article by Isabella Afonso and illustration by Ipeleng Madibeng

This year, instead of using our normal system of merit rewards, we'll be adding a tail to the monkey. This will now be a competition between the Lions, Tigers and Dragons. If you receive a merit it adds another sticker (the colour of your house) to the tail.

So far the Dragons are in first place by two merits while the Lions are second and the Tigers are third. At the end of the year the house with the most merits will receive a reward.

All the houses are excited to find out who will win and what their reward will be. It's an academic race to the finish line!

 Danger is close
   Irritation is near
Snott on tissue
 Garbage in bins
  Unhygienic trash
    Smells of badness
     Toxic gases killing
 Ill people dying
     Nausea for the sick

       Gross, DISGUSTING!!!
