Suicide Squad movie *spoiler* free review - by Sydney Curwen

In the movie Suicide Squad, the villains are forced to become the heroes. In the movie I was extremely entertained as the director David Ayer did an amazing job. Actress Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) does excellently and I would love to see her again. Speaking of actors - Will Smith (Dead Shot) IS IN THIS MOVIE and dang!!! does he do a great job. Fun fact: Will Smith actually had to learn to use a real gun. In other words if you love action/comedy I highly recommend that you watch this movie!

The Spring Dance 2016 - by Isabella Afonso

On the 23rd of September the Grade 7's held a Spring Dance for the Grade 5 and 6 learners. There was music, dancing and photos as well as pizza, drinks, sweets and flower crowns (for the girls). Everybody was dancing and singing along to the songs, especially during the dance-offs.
Many people took photos with our own 'instagram feed' made by a few of the Grade 7 girls. The highlight of the evening was when Mrs Richards, Mrs Mauldon and Miss Paulo started dancing with us. All the Grade 7's worked really hard to make the dance happen and I for once think it was a success!

The Athletics Meeting review - 7th of September 2016 - by Joel Donkin

Our school was facing St Paulus, LSQ and New Hope at the St Paulus' school premises. The events that were held there were the 1200m race, high jump, long jump, relays, and shotput. Pretoria Chinese School came 3rd out of all the schools, and the Gr 5 boys and girls came third in the relays. In the boys' 1200m race, I - Joel Donkin - came in 3rd, as 2 LSQ people beat me. Ethan De Steur came 2nd in the 80m race. Eric Oliver got 3rd place for shotput and Khethiwe Masango came 4th and Madison Ferula came 5th in the 80m race.

The most important thing about these events is that everyone had fun, even though it was tiring!

The poem from a game 'Kingdom Hearts 2' - by Sydney Curwen

The Beginning

Each journey gives rise to chance encounters,
And each encounter brings forth a farewell.

When a farewell leads to a journey,
The worlds open their hearts.
Those chosen by the light,
Or ensnared by darkness.
Friends who share the same bonds,
Though their paths may differ.

When you doubt the path trod thus far,
When the hand you held is lost to you,
Gaze anew at the heart that once was...
For all the answers are within.

How to avoid bad exam marks - by Isabella Afonso

You don't understand most of the work for the exams, and they're only a few weeks away!
What do you do now!?
Here are a few ways to avoid failing :

- Ask
If you don't understand - ask for help (go to extra classes after school)

- Revise
You can't just assume that if you study the night before your exam you'll get good marks! Study in advance by revising your work on a regular basis.

- Make notes
Always make sure to write down extra hints or clues on how something will be asked. This will make your work much easier to study!

- Use colour
While studying most people like to make study notes, if you like to do this that's great! Just remember to write in way you can understand and use colour as it will help your brain memorize the work more easily.

- Rest
I know with exams your stress might be stopping you from sleeping peacefully, but remember that if you don't sleep - you'll become too exhausted to recall your studying!
These are just a few ideas for better studying. For further help consult your internet! :)

The upcoming movies to go see! - by Sydney Curwen

Obviously there're too many movies to be written on this list, however I'm still going to make it, just because I want to:
  • Finding Dory 2016 - 17 June
First off, we are going to start with a movie that is already out, so don't judge me. This movie looks like it's going to be exciting.
  • Suicide Squad - 5 August
Probably the worst team ever, but is probably the best movie and I am extremely excited for this one.
  • Moana - 23 November
Surprisingly this is a Disney movie - and did I mention that it stars Dwain Johnson - that's all I need to know.
  • A Rouge One: a Star Wars Story - 16 December
A sequel to episode 4.
Definitely going to be an awesome movie and will be showing five days after my birthday! ...just saying. :)

Go enjoy them all!

Public speaking evening - Isabella Afonso

On the 20th of June a few of our grade 6 and 7 public speakers participated in an unprepared public speaking evening at WHPS along with several other schools. The grade 6 speakers and grade 7 speakers were split up as there were a lot of students participating . Each grade was then given 4 topics to chose from along with about 10 minutes to figure out what they wanted to say and write out ideas on cue cards.

Each speaker was evaluated on their presentation and content of their speech  and were given a mark. All the speeches were above standard and were presented eloquently. After everyone presented their speeches they received their rubric and certificate.

From there they were treated with a cup of hot chocolate and were able to go to the dinning hall to talk with their fellow contestants! These types of festivals are great ways to practise your speaking skills and to learn from other students.
