The upcoming movies to go see! - by Sydney Curwen

Obviously there're too many movies to be written on this list, however I'm still going to make it, just because I want to:
  • Finding Dory 2016 - 17 June
First off, we are going to start with a movie that is already out, so don't judge me. This movie looks like it's going to be exciting.
  • Suicide Squad - 5 August
Probably the worst team ever, but is probably the best movie and I am extremely excited for this one.
  • Moana - 23 November
Surprisingly this is a Disney movie - and did I mention that it stars Dwain Johnson - that's all I need to know.
  • A Rouge One: a Star Wars Story - 16 December
A sequel to episode 4.
Definitely going to be an awesome movie and will be showing five days after my birthday! ...just saying. :)

Go enjoy them all!

Public speaking evening - Isabella Afonso

On the 20th of June a few of our grade 6 and 7 public speakers participated in an unprepared public speaking evening at WHPS along with several other schools. The grade 6 speakers and grade 7 speakers were split up as there were a lot of students participating . Each grade was then given 4 topics to chose from along with about 10 minutes to figure out what they wanted to say and write out ideas on cue cards.

Each speaker was evaluated on their presentation and content of their speech  and were given a mark. All the speeches were above standard and were presented eloquently. After everyone presented their speeches they received their rubric and certificate.

From there they were treated with a cup of hot chocolate and were able to go to the dinning hall to talk with their fellow contestants! These types of festivals are great ways to practise your speaking skills and to learn from other students.

X-men: Apocalypse - Movie Review by Sydney Curwen

X-men: Apocalypse (based in the 80's) is the best X-men movie so far. I recommend watching X-men First Class and X-men Days Of Future Past, because there are some references to them in the movie, so that the movie makes more sense. X-men: Apocalypse is based on the first mutant ever (and also probably the strongest too) This movie contains the most mutants in a single movie so far. There is a lot of action - the most I've seen in a movie any way - that's why I probably finished my popcorn 15 minutes into the movie. I loved this movie and I think you will too.

Tekkie Tax Day - by Moira Dahlan

On the 27 May PCS participated in the Tekkie Tax Day.
Tekkie Tax is an annual fundraising campaign for a large mix of carefully selected welfare organisations, schools and institutions in South Africa.

The school was filled with all kinds of tekkies in every colour of the rainbow. The children paid R10 to wear any funky coloured tekkies and to get a sticker on which ever charity they have chosen. We had a choice between Education, Animals and Children. Each sticker had the charity you have chosen and a picture which was related to the charity, for example the animal sticker either had a horse, a cat, a dog, a rhino or a monkey. You could also have bought one of their funky shoelaces to put on your shoe.

Tekkie Tax is a fun way to help charity and raise money, so if you didn’t participate in Tekkie Tax I suggest you should try it next year because it’s not only a good thing to do but you could show off your new pair of kicks to all your friends!

Choir Festival - by Isabella Afonso

On Monday the 30th of May our senior preparatory choir took part in a choir festival held at CBC. There were a number of other choirs (both junior and senior) from different schools.

When all the members of the choir had arrived, they started warming up their voices. Once our choir was in place  on the stage, they began to perform. First they sang 'Fill the World with Love,' then 'Edelweiss' and finally they finished off with 'Do-Re-Me.'

All the songs were accompanied by the piano played by Mr van Rensburg and 'Edelweiss' was accompanied by the violin by Moira Dahlan as well. It was a wonderful show and our choir is looking forward to taking part in the choir festivals to come this year!

A Movie Review by Sydney Curwen - "Captain America: Civil War"

Source: Pinterest
There is a newish movie that came out in cinemas. It is from Marvel, and is probably one of the best movies of all time - Captain America: Civil War.

Some of the best faces of the marvel cinematic universe come back on screen - Falcon, Ant man, Black Widow, Captain America, The Winter Soldier, Iron Man, The Vision and the two who we've been waiting for - Black Panther and Spiderman. This movie definitely has the most superheroes gathered together. So don't miss out, go and watch it today!

Horse Fun Day at Dante Deo - By LaKiesha Pather

On Saturday the 14th of May Dante Deo Equestrian Centre held a fun day to help raise money and entertain the other abled children. There were pancakes, cupcakes, coffee and much more. The Fun Day started at 10am and ended at 2pm. Sadly there was a bit of rain but that didn’t stop the fun. As the day went on more people arrived and there was a riding demonstration. It was a very enjoyable day with lots of games like, pin the tail on Maggie the Donkey and much more. Maggie  - our beloved donkey walked around, showing off her magnificent Mexican hat and allowed some of the little kids to ride on her back. Despite the rain kids painted their faces and parents enjoyed wine to counter the weather. The day turned out well, as enough money was raised to sponsor riding lessons for the other abled children.
Maggie shows off her Mexican hat!
